Thermal Management

Coda Octopus Engineering designs custom thermal management for military electronics. Their low SWAP Thermite® computers use a custom heat-pipe designed to pass MIL-STD-810G.

Another example is the Boxminion system developed for the US Government. This power distribution and Direct Liquid Cooling (DLC) chassis featured a full cabled PCIe Gen3 implementation with dual 16-lane ports, re-drivers, and comprehensive control and monitoring. It also supported multiple high-speed Ethernet connections and included a custom baseboard management controller (BMC) for remote control, monitoring, diagnostics, IPMI, and an encrypted web interface, with provisions for future expansion.

The Boxminion power system offered 5400W total capacity (3600W target), quad redundant hot-swappable supplies, extreme current handling, flexible input, high efficiency, and heavy copper bus bars.

The DLC system included external and internal dripless quick disconnects and temperature monitoring. The air cooling subsystem featured six high-speed counter-rotating fans in easily swappable, vibration-isolated blocks with full speed control and monitoring.
